Stomp out the rhythm

We hosted music workshops by the group Stomp during their visit to York’s Grand Opera House. Dance and drama have been significant parts of our after-school work since we first took part in the annual York School Dance and Drama Festival five years ago. Stomp began with rhythm - clapping hands and stamping feet and asking children to copy rhythm patterns. Then they moved on to group work and games. Instruments included basketballs, dustpan and brushes and the inevitable oil drums.

The group encouraged those who were reluctant and stretched those who showed ability. At the end of the session they also talked about their life on stage.
