Thank you for publishing the frank account of the statistical manipulation surrounding the Third International Maths and Science Study, (TES, March 20). It confirms opinions that the media and politicians regard teachers as the “villains”.

We should look to the damage done to the profession by the negative attitudes taken towards teachers. MPs who earn good money without “knowing” their tables, should be the last to cast stones.

The popular press should stop its sniping at teachers who could earn much more in industry but choose to serve the community.
