Promising program

Tomorrow’s Promise is a flexible multi media integrated learning system just launched by Longman. This has been designed to help develop core numeracy and literacy skills outlined at Key Stage 1 - 3 of the National Curriculum and incorporates a pupil access-ment facility and management package.

The Maths Scheme tackles the cognitive skills required for mental maths, algebra, data handling, problem solving, shape, space and measures.

The Literacy Scheme covers key elements such as grammar, punctuation and spelling. There is an accompanying Tomorrow’s Promise Compass Curriculum Manager which should help teachers to devise learning plans for individual students. Tomorrow’s Promise comes complete with installation, implement-ation training and support service.

For beginners

There is a brand new set of reading and spelling aids, first developed in Australia by the Three R’s Education Centre Products and which are now available in this country for the first time.

These are aimed at early learners and older children with learning difficulties. The Early Words Reading Kit (approx pound;30) consists of a A4 Vinyl folder containing over 100 magnetic words and pictures, the aim of which is to develop a basic sight vocabulary. Also available is an Activity Book (pound;13.50) consisting of 90 photocopiable work sheets. The teacher’s version of the Early Words Reading Kit, four times larger than the pupil version to be used for whole class work costs approximately pound;27.

Also available is the Early Sounds Kit (price not yet available), a folder containing all the letters of the alphabet plus various combinations such as ‘sh’, ‘ew’. Vowels are in red and consonants in black.
