A new books event for primary pupils is being launched next month at New Lanark to give children the chance to meet the creators of some of their favourite stories. The festival, on September 13 and 14, is split into two sections: P1-P3 and P4-P7.

Julie Hegarty will be talking to pupils about her book Crabbit comes to stay, using a rock pool display, and Aileen Paterson, creator of the Maisie stories, will be chatting to young readers. Katie Grant, whose book Green Jasper has been shortleeted for the Royal Mail Scottish Children’s Book Awards, sponsored by The TES Scotland, will be chatting to upper primary pupils.

Entrance to the festival costs pound;1 per pupil, or pound;2 with a visit to Robert Owen’s School or the Millennium Ride (one free place for every 10).
