Stricter vetting of supply staff

Teachers will have to be vetted each time they join a new supply agency, under new rules for criminal record checks that apply from tomorrow.

The Criminal Records Bureau is ending so-called "portability" of checks because it said the practice was too dangerous. However, it said companies could continue to accept previous checks at their own risk. Supply agencies have complained the change is a money-making exercise - the checks cost pound;34 each - and will do little to improve child safety.
