Staff at a Kent grant-maintained school, at which pupils allegedly ran riot last week, are to vote in a strike ballot over governors' plans to lay off five teachers. News of the redundancies, caused by a Pounds 155,000 funding cut, sparked the disturbance at Montgomery School, Sturry, near Canterbury. The National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, which represents 27 of the 33 teachers at the secondary, is holding the preliminary ballot on Monday.
