FE colleges throughout the country were hit by strikes in a week of action by NATFHE, the lecturers’ union, as part of its two-year dispute over contracts. The union expected members at more than 50 colleges to take part.

Lecturers at Southwark College, south London, have also voted to strike indefinitely over the threat of 38 redundancies.

The employers and the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, which represents 4,000 lecturers, will have their second meeting with the conciliation service, ACAS, later this month. NATFHE has refused to take part.
