Schools’ ability to evaluate themselves remains “uncertain”, the chief inspector of schools has admitted to MPs. But David Bell told the Commons education select committee that plans to step up self-evaluation in inspections would not make them less rigorous. “Far from this being a softtouch, I think it will put a very penetrative light on leadership and management,” he said.
