The College of Teachers has met with a setback. Formerly known as the College of Preceptors, this is the professional organisation which “exists for the advancement of higher standards in teaching and education”. A worthy aim, pursued with a steady flow of sage pronouncements on the issues of the day.
Chief inspector Chris Woodhead is, sadly, a hard man to please. “I have just read the latest two press statements issued by the College of Teachers,” he told them in an admirably terse letter. “I do not want to read any more and would be grateful, therefore, if you could remove me from your mailing list.”
