ENVIRONMENT

- Over 100 pupils have visited Loch Katrine to plant 2,000 trees in two days. Glasgow's Cleveden Secondary, All Saints Secondary and John Paul Academy were joined by Callander's McLaren High to spread Scots pine and birch seedlings over 20,000 square metres. They were helping establish the Great Trossachs Forest and celebrating Eco Schools Scotland.

ENGLISH amp; POLITICS

- Calum Brydon-Leigh, an S3 pupil at Earlston High in the Borders, is the only Scottish winner of a national political writing competition. He won a trip to London after taking part in Write On, organised and promoted by the Parliamentary Press Gallery. It invited entrants to imagine being a political leader. He chose to write as Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg.
