Tattie Tastic, a project involving Glamis Primary and Agrico UK, a Scottish seed potato company, has been shortlisted in Angus Council’s Partnership Excellence Awards. The project to help pupils understand food processing and gain practical skills concludes with a “cook-off” and children eating the potatoes they have grown.

Pupils shared experiences of growing up in Glasgow’s east end during a visit from the Big Lottery Fund, as part of its Realising Ambition programme. Dalmarnock Primary presented a mural designed by pupils for the StreetsAhead project, driven by the Children’s Parliament, to an audience including police and council representatives.

Gaelic

Keep Scotland Beautiful has published its Eco-Schools materials in Gaelic, thanks to funding from Bord na Gaidhlig. Meanwhile, the John Muir Trust has received Bord na Gaidhlig funding to create resources for the John Muir award.

Climate confab

Sustainability

On 19 June Scottish schools linked up with environment and climate change minister Stewart Stevenson in Rio de Janeiro, where he was part of the UK delegation to the UN conference on sustainable development. During the Glow Meet pupils questioned the minister about the conference, which involved over 100 heads of state and world leaders, and Scotland’s efforts to tackle climate change. http:bit.lyMmPexf

Summer classes

Drama

The Citizens Theatre in Glasgow is taking bookings for its summer academy. The programme, for 4-16s, started in 2008 as a result of high demand for weekend drama classes. A key theme will be “celebration”, tying in with its summer academy’s fifth anniversary, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the forthcoming Olympics. The theatre also runs drop-in arts and crafts sessions in the summer. citz.co.uk.
