Road to success

SCIENCE

- Glasgow Science Centre is taking science on the road once again, thanks to continued financial support of #163;500,000 from the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline to build on the unprecedented success of the BodyWorks on Tour programme. Nearly 230,000 people have already experienced the healthy living initiative - almost five times more than forecast. www.glasgowsciencecentre.org

LITERACY

- Actor John Barrowman and his sister, Carole E. Barrowman, a journalist and English professor, visited The Edinburgh Academy Junior School last month to sign the latest edition of their fantasy adventure book Bone Quill, about twins who have special powers. They were joined by pupils from St Mary’s and Wardie primaries.

ENTERPRISE

- P6 pupils at Robert Gordon’s College, Aberdeen, have won second place in a marketing competition that was part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival, the UK’s largest youth drama festival. The result was particularly impressive as the majority of participants were from secondary. The team had to publicise the drama event, and manage ticket sales and budgets, while capturing creative moments through photography. To register for next year: www.ssf.uk.comregister

- More than 1,000 pupils from schools across Glasgow are taking part in the annual Glasgow Primary Schools Cross-Country Championships today at Nether Pollok playing fields. As well as a morning of exercise, pupils race against the clock as they compete, and have fun too.
