Debaters from a Falkirk school have won a national competition at their first attempt. Mari McGinlay and Blair Wilson from Braes High are the first team from the school to enter the Law Society of Scotland's annual Donald Dewar Memorial Debating Tournament. The pair proposed the motion, "This House would put youth before experience".

Sum success


An S4 team from Dumfries High has won the Scottish section of the Mathematiques sans Frontieres competition, run by the Academie de Strasbourg and North Lanarkshire Council. The competition required teams to complete 10 maths problems in 90 minutes. One of the problems had to be answered in either French, German, Spanish or Italian.
