Almost 400

readers aged four to 12 took part in this summer's "Circus Stars" reading challenge, run by Shetland Library in Lerwick. It encouraged youngsters to read six books over the summer holidays. Librarian Morag Nicolson said there were plans to roll it out in some rural schools in the autumn.

Creative Writing

The Collins Big Cat Writing Competition starts this month. This year, 9- 11s are being invited to submit a poem about a journey, or a story about an unexpected visitor for the reading age of 5-6. Winning stories will be published in the Collins Big Cat reading series.
