Green warriors

ECO

A team of 10 eco-aware pupils from Shawhead Primary near Dumfries met MSPs and leading business representatives to present findings of an energy- reduction project which won them first prize in the Sky Rainforest Rescue Schools Challenge. The "Carbon Busters" made posters and created an eco- newsletter among other things.

TECHNOLOGY

LEAP, the Local Energy Action Plan set up last year to help Renfrewshire residents to save energy and money, is funding P4-7 workshops by educational technology company ComputerXplorers this month. Pupils will use its specialist Lego to generate electricity, then carry out tests to see how energy is used, and the cost of wasting it.

Victory walk

ROAD SAFETY

Kinlochewe Primary pupils won Highland Council's Golden Boot Award for making walking to school part of their daily routine. Nearly 6,000 pupils throughout the Highlands took part in the competition, run by the council's road safety unit in National Walk to School Week.

Toilet award

HEALTH

Schools have been invited to celebrate World Toilet Day on 19 November by entering a school toilet award. The competition is run by the Bog Standard campaign, part of national children's charity ERIC (Education and Resources for Improving Childhood Continence). Prizes will include a storyteller visit, 10 Michael Morpurgo books and a selection of Steve Cole books.

Kodaly course

MUSIC

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, in partnership with the National Youth Choir of Scotland, is to run the country's first accredited Kodaly musicianship course. NYCoS education consultant Lucinda Geoghegan will provide tuition on the philosophies of Kodaly in personal musicianship and educational pedagogy. Courses will run from 9 October.
