MARINE BIOLOGY

- A website allowing users to track the movements of grey seals in Orkney has been launched by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland. The Deep Blue marine education website contains a wealth of information about mammals, fish and invertebrates found in Scotland’s seas and the latest scientific research being conducted in Scottish waters. www.deepbluescotland.org.uk

- A new online resource - Britain at Work: Voices from the Workplace 1945- 1995 - has been launched by the Trades Union Congress Library Collections at London Metropolitan University. The website contains audio clips and transcripts of interviews with workers, as well as photographs, posters and documents from the TUC Collections.

Step in time

DANCE

- Pupils across East Ayrshire performed to traditional Indian and modern Scottish music in Sahasra, an evening of Indian dance at Kilmarnock’s Palace Theatre earlier this term. Pupils prepared for the event by taking part in workshops with Dance Ihayami, Scotland’s Indian dance company. They learned how to tell stories using expressive Indian dance hand gestures, facial expressions and rhythmic footwork sequences.

ENVIRONMENT

- Pupils from Hollybrook Academy in Govanhill, one of Glasgow’s special schools, have been planting snowdrop bulbs for visitors to Pollok Country Park and the Burrell Collection to enjoy. As part of their John Muir Award, they helped Hamish Brown, who donated the plants, and ranger Ian Boyd, plant 1,000 bulbs.

- Students at Earlston High in the Borders are celebrating the opening of the school’s new hair and nail salon. The facility was officially launched by Joshua Miller, director of hairdressing group, Charlie Miller.
