MOST teaching at Cambuslang College is good but student success rates vary considerably. An HMI inspection rated 85 per cent of lessons as good or very good. Of the remainder 14 per cent were fair and one was unsatisfactory.

But in four of the seven specialist areas of teaching, success rates by students were only fair and in a few units and programmes were unsatisfactory. Students leaving early to take up a job contributed to non-completion of courses but did not wholly account for low success rates.

Self-evaluation had proved helpful but needed more staff development. Many reports prepared for the inspection had not been sufficiently self-critical. Performance indicators were analysed but senior managers did not ensure that action was taken.
