The estimable press office of East Renfrewshire is best known for the excruciating puns served up by fertile press officer Hugh Dougherty.
The latest tale concerns the Thai boxer - former pupil of the council’s St Luke’s High, of course - who is helping young smokers to “kick” the habit.
Boxer Barry Colquhoun was roped in to encourage the kids to “packet-in” with his “stub-it-out” message, helped by a drama group from St Luke’s who have no “douts” about the anti-smoking message.
Special events started being rolled out - “not rolled up” - on Tuesday and the whole enterprise should ensure that chesty pupils will no longer have a week off - “wee cough” (actually that was our effort; it’s catching).
