Billy McNeill, Jim Baxter, Denis Law and Kenny Dalglish feature in an ideal national squad headed, of course, by I well, you’ll just have to go along and find out.

The Iona Gallery is part of the terrific Highland Folk Museum complex in Kingussie, which features a traditional thatched black house with a smoky peat fire and no chimney, and is a short walk from the train station.

One Hundred Years of Tennis

Costumes, photographs, trophies and memorabilia are used to chart the development of tennis in the west of Scotland. It is a centenary celebration not only of the game but also of people and places associated with it.

Life at Sea Aberdeen Maritime Museum

The museum in Ship Row is always worth a visit, if only for the spectacular views of the harbour from the picture windows. Now it is the launch venue for Life at Sea, a touring show of exhibits drawn from 13 of the UK’s leading maritime institutions.

The artefacts include a well-worn table knife which belonged to a member of Sir John Franklin’s lost 1845 Arctic expedition and was found in a boat, along with several skeletons, by a search party in 1857. There is a selection of ordinary tobacco tins which were beautifully decorated with nautical scenes by sailors to relieve the tedium of a long voyage.

They also carved chess sets from whale’s teeth, scratched pictures on walrus tusks and made model ships from turkey bones.

A programme of talks and family events accompanies the show.

Original maps, plans, paintings, historic photographs and a wonderful collection of objects are used to tell the story of shipping, sailing and fishing in the Solway and the Rhinns of Galloway. The exhibition provides a chance to find out more about shipwrecks, forgotten ports and fisheries and the local boat building trade.

On the Beach, Under the Sea

This interactive exhibition has been created especially for children aged six and under, offering opportunites for storytelling, role-play, dressing-up and tactile play in unusual environments to learn about natural history.

It features a beach hut for storytelling, a camouflage tunnel, a shell investigation station and a video entitled Shells Alive which is shown from inside a treasure chest.
