CARTOON "food dudes", who gain super powers when they eat fruit and veg, are persuading youngsters to eat healthily. Bangor University research suggests making the foods appear "cool" is an effective alternative to educating youngsters about healthy eating. In a trial involving 26 five and six-year-olds, consumption of fruit doubled and vegetable-eating rose fourfold even when they were offered alongside chocolate and crisps. The Food Standards Agency is now trialling the approach across Wales.
