A private school head has defended his decision to send home two 16-year-old pupils for drinking shandy. Liam Cullen and Billy Hopkinson-Wood feared they would miss GCSE revision classes, but were allowed back after a day.
John Keller, head of Sawyers Hall college, Brentwood, Essex, said: “They had pint glasses and were walking down the corridor and outside in the playground. It wasn’t clear it was shandy.
“We suspected it wasn’t hard alcohol, but it was more to do with what it represented.”
