Sven-Goran Eriksson, the England football manager, is tempting fate by agreeing to a speak to a national conference on “How to get the best out of your people”.
His appearance at the annual conference of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development on October 23 will come just 12 days after England have qualified, reached the play-offs or failed to reach the finals of Euro 2004 in Portugal. If it is the last of these, there may be a late substitution.
Presumably his speech will advise against inadvertently kicking a boot at your star player (Ferguson and Beckham). It remains to be seen whether he will bring up the dangers of being distracted by issues out of work (Ulrika).
The personnel institute advises colleges on management tactics and staff training.
