Swansea’s children’s books festival Wordplay (running through Children’s Book Week, October 4-10, at the Dylan Thomas Centre) is 10 years old, and 3,000 children registered for schools events in the first few hours of booking. Seats should still be available for key evening events for parents and teachers: festival founder Wendy Cooling joins Berlie Doherty and Lauren Child on October 5 to discuss the past decade in children’s books and the future; on October 6 Anthony Browne, Helen Cooper and Simon James talk about their latest picture book projects. Vivian French runs daily creative writing workshops for children and there’s a chance to see photographs by Ifeoma Onyefulu and original artwork by Jackie Morris from The Seal Children and her new picture book Lord of the Forest (pictured), which will be launched at Wordplay. Bookings and full programme on 01792 463980. In the festival’s proud tradition of accessibility, all events cost pound;1.
