There was a case of suspected bad language in one secondary exam hall, which can’t be named to spare blushes.

Invigilators had been told to place General level English papers inside the Foundation level answer booklets. To help smooth the process, one douce lady chanted “F andJG” as an aide memoire.

But as she spoke faster her chant turned into “F-inG, F-inG”, until a colleague pointed out that this might be misinterpreted.

By any grade-related criteria, the result was one very red-faced invigilator.
