A more tactful and professional way of writing to pupils after an inspection was shown in the following extract from a letter received by my grandson at his community college: “Perhaps you could help teachers make lessons more interesting?”

It also suggested that students ask for more help and clearer guidance from the teacher when they do not know what they need to do to improve their work.

Enlisting the co-operation of pupils is surely the most effective way to ensure that recommendations for improvement are put in place and that standards go up.
