Training courses for school support staff need to be better designed if they are to help people progress in their careers, according to research from Sheffield Hallam university. There are around 600 qualifications suitable for support staff and 50 qualifications specifically for them.
Researchers found no evidence of large numbers of teaching assistants wanting to move into teaching.
