Real gains in attainment targets through study support are best focused on pupils on the margins of five General or Credit passes at Standard grade or three Cs at Higher, according to “successful” schools in West Lothian. An analysis of study support in the authority shows that headteachers, departments and class teachers recognise that pupils on the fringes of better grades can be pushed up with extra help out of school hours. Easter revision and summer programmes are now part of an extensive network of support.
