Secondary schools in England spent #163;293 million on supply teachers in 200910, according to research by the TaxPayers’ Alliance. The pressure group noted that schools with more than 30 per cent of pupils on free school meals were more likely to use supply teachers. “The children who need good, stable teaching most are the most likely to have instability in their teachers,” it concluded.
