Teach rights ‘to reduce exclusions’

Teaching children about their rights can reduce exclusions and bullying in school while improving teacher-pupil relationships, according to research released this week. The study, commissioned by Unicef, said that putting children’s rights at the heart of a school’s planning and ethos can also boost attainment. The UN organisation has a policy of pushing this agenda in education, which it then badges as Rights Respecting Schools.
