Carlo Cecchi, formerly of Sutton high, Ellesmere, Cheshire, was placed under a two-year conditional registration order after lying about sending coursework to exam board Edexcel and giving one pupil a score of 33 out of 30.
Mrs Bushra Nasir, chair of the GTC panel in Birmingham, said: "Mr Cecchi's dishonesty with the school caused prejudice because it could have affected the view the exam board took of students' work. This could undermine the reputation of the school and confidence of parents."
The panel heard that Mr Cecchi had suffered personal problems and did not attend work from the beginning of June onwards because he felt unable to cope. He formally resigned on July 11, 2003.
Robert Bourns, presenting officer, said that he had been told Mr Cecchi was now working at the Grange, a private school in Hartford, Cheshire.
