AN independent school teacher from West Sussex who led a school boating trip on which a nine-year-old girl drowned has been fined pound;2,000 at Portsmouth Crown Court for his part in the tragedy. Science teacher Paul Dove, 66, pleaded guilty to failing to take adequate precautions to protect children in his care. Elizabeth Bee, a pupil at Boundary Oaks school, Fareham, Hampshire, died when a motorboat carrying nine children from the school capsized in Portsmouth harbour in September 1999. The school was fined pound;20,000 for failing to ensure pupils’ safety and pound;5,000 for failing to ensure the safety of staff.
