A TEACHER donated pound;15,000 of his own money to build a new special needs classroom at his cash-strapped school.

Alistair Findlay, head of maths at Topcliffe junior and infant School in Castle Vale, Birmingham, dipped into his own pockets after incresing pupil numbers forced the school to use rooms previously dedicated to special needs for general lessons.

The school, which has 376 pupils, could not afford to build a new room and no money was available from Birmingham City Council.
