Teacher refugees surge

The number of teacher refugees seeking escape to Britain has doubled in just over a year. According to the charity Refugees into Teaching, there are now 950 on its database, compared with 434 at the end of 2008. Around 250 are teachers from Zimbabwe, fleeing the Mugabe regime.
