AN English teacher grabbed the wheel of a runaway coach full of Italian language students after the 68-year-old driver died of a heart attack on Sunday.

The coach twice hit the central barrier as it entered a tunnel near Gatwick airport. Guy Harvold, 24, who does not have a driving licence, said instinct took over. He steered the coach to safety and managed to reach the brake. The pupils had just flown in for a two-week course at a language school in Bournemouth.

The driver was later named as Gerald Tyler of Verwood, Dorset.
