TEACHERS are taking part in interviews to build up a dictionary of excellence in the classroom.
The definitions will be used in assessing staff performance. Hay Management Consultants have interviewed 60 teachers on incidents and actions which had positive results in the classroom.
Hay will then produce a list of qualities needed, for example, by newly-qualified and advanced skills teachers, and by those applying to cross the Government’s new performance threshold.
Frank Hartle, director of Hay, said: “It will be a dictionary of teacher behaviour. The teachers’ accounts will be codified into different behaviours and themes.”
He added: “We are also talking to pupils about what excites and motivates them.”
Hay designed the leadership programme for heads and has now won the contract from the Government to look at classroom teachers.
