Teachers in Norfolk are predicting a crisis in the music service, after the withdrawal of a pound;168,000 subsidy by the county council.

Instrument tuition will go up from pound;18.50 an hour to pound;22.25, with parents expected to bear the brunt of the rises. Membership fees for Norfolk’s 20 ensembles will rise from pound;11 a term to pound;25.The county has already lost its youth orchestra because too few youngsters were able to afford it.
