MORE than half of the teaching profession is set to quit within a decade owing to stress, bureaucracy and heavy workloads, a survey has revealed. A telephone poll published in The Guardian this week showed that 53 per cent of teachers and lecturers in primary, secondary and university education do not exect to be teaching in 10 years’ time. More than a third of those under 34 said that they did not expect to be teaching a decade from now. High workloads was the biggest issue, followed by bureaucracy and stress. Separate interviews with parents showed that the vast majority supported teachers.
