Teachers ‘still too helpful’

Some teachers are still giving Standard grade science candidates too much support with their investigations, the Scottish Qualifications Authority states in a series of reports on moderation of teachers’ own assessments. Support materials for pupils should not include statements like: “Remember to repeat your experiment.”

Verdicts on chemistry and biology are mainly positive, but a substantial number of schools are still making errors in assessing practical abilities in biology, in some cases repeating errors pointed out before.
