FRANCE:As the new school year started this week, parents and teachers were urged to overcome their traditional mutual suspicion and work together. Education minister Jack Lang and minister for families Segol ne Royal presented a series of guides to explain to parents how schools function, advise them on how they can help their children to progress and inform them of their duties. "The family is the key to reducing inequalities between children; so schools must no longer discredit parents," said Ms Royal. "But parents must also be told their responsibilities. They must know what is expected of their children."
