A spokeswoman for the Scottish Executive’s lifelong learning department, which has responsibility for enterprise in education, said there was a comprehensive communications strategy in place.

This included:

* A newsletter delivered to 170,000 Scottish employers since the beginning of the year, aimed at those not currently involved in the initiative as well as those that have been involved for some time.

* A media campaign in February, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises.

* Three conferences bringing together ministers, business leaders and educators to discuss how links might develop.

The spokeswoman said: “We are developing new communications specifically to help keep business informed about all aspects of Determined to Succeed.

“Teachers also have an important role to play in communicating to businesses the positive impact their involvement is having in the classroom.”
