Teachers v lecturers at EIS

Increasing tensions between the teachers' and lecturers' sections of the Educational Institute of Scotland are set to resurface tomorrow (Saturday) at the annual conference of the College Lecturers' Association in Edinburgh.

The left-wing dominated CLA is again to press the teacher-led executive council of the EIS to heed a call for greater administrative and professional support for college branches. A motion from Strathclyde regional committee stresses that the workload of branch officials has become untenable since colleges became independent institutions. Plant bargaining on salaries and conditions of service has increased the burden.

The CLA wants two union officers for the tertiary sector.
