Teachers at a Hampshire secondary school are to vote on whether they should teach a pupil who was excluded for hitting a classroom assistant.

The head and governors of Hurst community college in Baughurst expelled James Black, 15, in October after he was accused of smacking Angela Godfrey and threatening her with a metal file. The pupil was reinstated by an independent appeals panel, but has decided to remain at home with his mother while teachers prepare for the ballot, which is expected in the next two weeks.
