The seventh winner of the South Lanarkshire Book Award, which aims to encourage teenagers to read more widely and for pleasure, will be announced on March 10. The shortlisted books are Unique by Alison Allen-Gray, Plastic Fantastic by Simon Cheshire, The Lost Boys’
Appreciation Society by Alan Gibbons, How it Works by Graham Marks and The Book of Dead Days by Marcus Sedgwick.
Ten secondary schools take part in deciding the winner, with all S3 pupils reading the five novels that have been shortlisted by school and local librarians and the authority’s literacy development co-ordinator.
On March 10, the authors will be in South Lanarkshire, visiting schools in the morning before the award ceremony at Hamilton Town House.
