Both Channel 4 and BBC Schools have two new series each to support the numeracy hour. Top of the list is Channel 4‘s marvellous Number Crew for six to seven-year-olds, which this term will be tackling calculations. Each week the crew have a new problem to solve, the repetition is thorough and embellished by catchy songs and puzzles.

For the same age group from the BBC there’s Number Adventures, a dazzling animation in which mathematical challenges are this term linked to shape and measuring length. BBC’s Megamaths for seven to nine-year-olds has a raft of new human presenters to coer the notoriously difficult world of fractions, and makes imaginative use of the victorious men’s 400m relay team to demonstrate quarters.

TVM: Puzzle Maths from Channel 4 employs graphics, animation and live action to approach problem-solving seven to nine-year-olds.
