The lure of starring on the small screen has persuaded two schools in England to let the cameras monitor their every move for a whole year. Now the producers behind the hit television series Educating Essex and Educating Yorkshire are appealing for their next subject to come forward.

Whichever school is chosen will follow in the footsteps of Passmores Academy in Harlow, which was the focus of Educating Essex back in 2011. The school is now oversubscribed and deputy head Stephen Drew won legions of fans - not to mention his first headship - in the process.

Currently, millions are tuning in to Educating Yorkshire to follow life at Dewsbury’s Thornhill Community Academy.

Producers TwoFour are now looking for volunteers for their next series. “We want to capture the experiences of both staff and a diverse range of pupils, from the new Year 7s finding their feet at ‘big school’ to older students negotiating the ups and downs of being a teenager,” assistant producer Rebecca Symons said.

Vic Goddard, head of Passmores, told TES that participating in Educating Essex had been “an interesting journey of self-discovery” for the school. “I always think, ‘Why should I say no (to the cameras)?’”

But others were not so sure. On Twitter, @JennieJordan said of his comment: “Let me think for 0.2 seconds. Errrr. No.”
