The best design ideas from the 4 Learning 2020 Design a Future competition will be on show at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham this weekend.

The competition, which was open to 10 to 19-year-old students, called for design projects to meet the challenges of life in the year 2020. Shortlisted entries include a hand-held virtual catalogue, a temporary disaster shelter, mobile-phone sunglasses, a fingerprint access machine and a secure handbag with built-in technology.

Winners of the competition will be announced at the weekend and the successful entrants and their designs will be featured in an edition of The Technology Programme presented by designer Wayne Hemingway on Channel 4 in the New Year.

Details of the shortlisted designs can also be seen on the 4 learning website at www.channel4.co.uk (type 2020 Design in the search box) Magna, tel: 01709 720 002 www.magnatrust.org.uk
