Present at Edinburgh University's dinner for honorary graduands was Mr Jonathan Wills, the new rector, a postgraduate student and the first student to hold the post. When elected, Mr Wills said he was anti-establishment and he would not take part in the paraphernalia of the rectorial installation - no robes or hymns for him. Last Friday's dinner was an academic dress affair, that is, tails, decoration etc. Mr Wills was in tails, even though some of the professors were in the less dressy black-tie outfit.
