Academies approval

16th October 2009 at 01:00

Four new academies have been approved to replace National Challenge schools where fewer than 30 per cent of children achieve five good GCSEs including English and maths.

Plans will now be developed for two academies in Plymouth to replace Tamarside Community College and John Kitto Community College.

Eastbourne Technology College in East Sussex and Staunton Community Sports College in Havant, Hampshire, will also shut under the plans announced by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
