Another head

West Lothian councillors have again demonstrated their penchant for appointing headteachers to senior positions in their education directorate.

The latest is Pat Sweeney, the head of St Margaret's Academy in Livingston, who takes over as the council's head of education. He succeeds Gordon Ford, a former head in Edinburgh and West Lothian, who is now the council's director of education and cultural services. Mr Ford took over from Kate Reid, who succeeded Roger Stewart, both ex-headteachers.
