Arise Sir Iain

16th September 2005 at 01:00
Iain McMillan, the CBI Scotland boss, was rather taken aback when he realised that staff in Barrhead's Springhill primary, which he was visiting recently with East Renfrewshire Council leader Jim Fletcher, thought he was a "Sir".

"Sir Iain McMillan" was even written on the board of one of the classes while the kids did writing on the visit. Too much of a gentleman to say anything to the contrary, plain Iain turned to Fletcher out of earshot of teacher and pupils to whisper with an impish smile: "Sir? I could get used to this!"
